Orchestra
Westlake High School is the only school in the CVUSD to offer three levels of String Ensembles.  We currently offer a total of five string ensembles; Chamber Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra I and Symphony Orchestra II.  Students receive 5 units of UC approved fine arts credits for every semester enrolled in the Chamber, String, and Concert Orchestra.

This is our premier auditioned string ensemble. Emphasis is placed on the rehearsal and performance of class “A” and “AA” orchestra literature. They perform at the fall, winter, & spring concerts, the all-district string concert, and SCSBOA festivals, school functions and around the Thousand Oaks community.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged.

CONCERT ORCHESTRA, period 3

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA I & II, period 3/4
The Westlake High School IMD offers two full Symphony Orchestras comprised of string players, wind players, and percussionists. Members for Symphony I are comprised from the Chamber Orchestra and selected students from the Wind Ensemble. Members for Symphony II are comprised from the Concert Orchestra and selected students from the Wind Symphony. The Symphony Orchestra meets during the simultaneously scheduled Wind Ensemble / Chamber Orchestra classes and the Wind Symphony / Concert Orchestra classes. In addition, after school rehearsals may be required. These ensembles perform at the winter concert, spring concert and SCSBOA festivals.
The Orchestra Class was started in the Fall of 1998 with three students. The 2014-2015 school year looks to have over 100 talented students enrolled in the Orchestra classes. Having had their debut performance in the spring semester 2005, Westlake High School was the first high school in the district to offer a full symphony orchestra.
